Desktop Sharing
Choose stream quality
You can select the default stream quality once the session is established. Besides a full list of different specific quality options, you should mainly focus on selecting one of the following options:
- Quality Optimized - stream quality will be maximized if the underlying connection is fast enough;
- Speed Optimized - stream quality will be decreased to improve latency;
Quality optimized stream offers the best user experience, however it might introduce latency on lower bandwidth connections.
The default value is: "Quality Optimized"
Leave font smoothing while sharing this desktop
Set whether or not the font smoothing effect on the remote computer is enabled during the session or if it should be disabled once the session starts.
Leave background while sharing this desktop
Use this option to remove the desktop background when streaming. If you check this option, it can have a noticeable impact on performance since more data will need to be transferred when a window is moved. If left unchecked then the background will be set to solid black for the duration of the session.
The default value is: unchecked
Leave desktop effects while sharing this desktop
Similar to removing the background image for the duration of the session it is advisable to disable other desktop effects as they are purely aesthetic but can have a great impact on the quality and speed of the remote support session, especially if the connection has limited bandwidth.
The default value is: unchecked
Leave AERO desktop experience while sharing this desktop
Use this option to disable the AERO style setting in Windows (purely aesthetic addition of Windows). This option is checked by default and if you uncheck it, it can have a noticeable impact on performance since more data will be needed to be transferred when a window is moved. You can read more about AERO here.
The default value is: unchecked
Lock computer when network connection is lost
Set if the remote computer should automatically be locked if an ongoing ISL Light session gets disconnected.
Black screen stop delay (in seconds) when ESC key is pressed
Specify the amount of time (in seconds) that takes the Black Screen to be removed after the Esc key is pressed. The valid interval is between 10 and 300 seconds.
Default value: 10
On Session Start
Enable Black Screen when user connects
This option enables the use of the Black Screen option while in session. If you or your client needs more privacy, you can request the Black Screen to be displayed on the client side. During the time that the Black Screen is displayed, the user on the remote side won't be able to see his screen, but he can turn the Black Screen off and regain control.
Default value is: checked.
Enable clipboard by default when viewing remote desktop
Set whether or not the shared clipboard between local and remote computers is enabled or disabled by default when the session is established.
Keyboard
Disable local inputs while sharing this desktop
This option takes effect when you are on the streaming side of the support session. By selecting it you set that all local user inputs are disabled once the operator connects to this computer. It allows the operator to work on your computer without any disturbances.
The default value is: unchecked
Keyboard combinations passed to other side unchanged
Input the key combinations that pass to the remote computer without being locally translated into a UNICODE character. (e.g. on QWERTZ keyboards the key combination Ctrl+Alt+W results in | character. If you leave this option empty, then | character will be sent to the remote computer, otherwise if you set this key combination to pass unchanged, then the remote side will receive key commands Ctrl + Alt + W which may translate into some other character on the remote computer).
Input method:
- All keys are preceded with: VK_
- All key combinations entered should be in capital letters
- Supported Keys:
- characters A-Z ( VK_A, VK_B, ...., VK_Z)
- numbers 0-9 (VK_0, VK_1, ...,VK_9)
- Special characters:
- VK_CTRL, VK_LCTRL, VK_RCTRL
- VK_ALT
- VK_LMENU, VK_RMENU
- VK_SHIFT, VK_LSHIFT, VK_RSHIFT
- VK_F1, VK_F2, ... VK_F12
- Keys combinations are created with + sign , multiple combinations are separated with ,
- Example: VK_ALT+VK_F4, VK_CTRL+VK_ALT+VK_Q
Monitor Shortcuts
Move to next, previous or all monitors
Set the key combination shortcut for switching between different monitors while viewing a remote computer that has multiple of them. By default the following shortcuts are set:
- Right Ctrl + Right (arrow key) - switch to next monitor,
- Right Ctrl + Left (arrow key) - switch to previous monitor,
- Right Ctrl + Up (arrow key) - switch back to the view where all monitors are shown.
Right Ctrl is always a part of shortcut, the other key can be changed as descired.
Direct monitor selection (numberic 1-9)
If enabled the shortcuts are added for each individual available monitor on the remote side. Up to nine monitors can be referenced in this way:
- Right Ctrl + 1 - first monitor
- Right Ctrl + 2 - second monitor
- Right Ctrl + 3 - third monitor
- ...
Show monitor shortcuts window on session start
If enabled the Monitor Shortcut window will be shown to the operator when session is started, allowing the operator to familiarize themselves with the shortcuts, change them or disable them altogether.
System
Stream only non-alpha windows (CAPTUREBLT)
The viewing control for whether the CAPTUREBLT flag will be set for getting server updates. It is used for enabling/disabling the transfer of transparent windows. It is also used in situations when the mouse cursor on the viewed window is not seen (the problem has occurred mainly in some Citrix/RDP environments).
The default value is: unchecked
Select desktop streaming method
Select which driver should be used for acquiring and refreshing the image of the remote display. You can choose between:
- Automatic
- Use "Desktop Duplication"
- Use "Polling"
Default value is: Automatic, allowing ISL Light to select the best option for this session. You can also choose between two other options.
Polling is a standard way of requesting screen updates from the remote machine.
Display Duplication provides a better remote support experience. However, it can only be used on Windows 8 and 8.1, which include new DXGI desktop duplication drivers instead of older XDDM display drivers.
Manage hardware acceleration settings
Select this option to improve video/graphic streaming quality when you are connected to the session.
Default value is: checked
Use "Desktop Duplication" on Windows 8
If this option is selected, then the new Desktop Duplication drivers will be used if the session is established with a computer running Windows 8 and higher, as this provides a better remote support experience.
The default value is: checked
Use "Magnification API" on Windows 8
If this option is selected, then the new Magnification API is used when displaying the Black Screen on a computer running Windows 8 and higher.
The default value is: checked
Use deprecated monitor off signal
If this option is selected, then ISL Light can use the deprecated Windows "SC_MONITORPOWER" API to enable the black screen feature.
The default value is: checked
Optimize Resolution
Optimize resolution based on first local monitor
If enabled then the resolution of the remote computer will be changed when session is established to match the resolution of the first local monitor.
