Zebra OEMConfig Powered by MX
In order to enable remote control of Zebra devices, an application called Zebra OEMConfig Powered by MX must be downloaded from the Google Play Store. This can be done manually, or through Microsoft Intune.
To setup deployment of the Zebra OEMConfig Powered by MX application, please follow the instructions below:
Step 1
Open Microsoft Intune and navigate to the "Apps" menu. Under "By platform" select "Android".
Step 2
Click on "New" and select "Managed Google Play app" from the dropdown menu.
Step 3
Search for "Zebra OEM config" and select "Zebra OEMConfig Powered by MX".
Step 4
Click on "Select" and then click "Sync" in the upper left part of the screen. The app should now be available in the app menu for you to configure.
Note: The app itself must still be assigned to the devices of your choice.
Device Configuration Policy
A device configuration policy is required in order to allow remote control of Zebra devices. The policy will get synced from Microsoft Intune to the Zebra device via the Zebra OEMConfig app installed on the device itself.
To configure a new device policy, please follow the steps below:
Step 1
Open "Microsoft Intune" and navigate to the "Devices" menu. Under "Manage devices", click on "Configuration".
Step 2
Click "Create" and select "New Policy" from the dropdown menu.
Step 3
Select "Android Enterprise" from the "Platform" dropdown menu, and "OEMConfig" from the "Profile type" dropdown menu. Click Create to continue.
Step 4
Type in your desired policy name and select "Zebra OEMConfig Powered by MX" for the "OEMConfig app" and then click Next.
Step 5
Click on "Configure" next to "Package Configuration".
Step 6
Click on the three dots next to "Package configuration". Select "Add setting" from the dropdown menu.
Step 7
Fill in the "Package name" and "Package Signing Certificate" fields.
Package Name: com.islonline.isllight.mobile.android

Step 8
Click on "Configure" next to "Permissions".
Step 9
Click on the three dots next to "Permissions". Select "Add setting" from the dropdown menu.
Step 10
Select "System Alert Window" from the "Name" dropdown menu, and "Grant" from the "State" dropdown menu.
Step 11
Return to the "Package" menu and select "Configure" next to allowed services.
Step 12
Click on the three dots next to "Allowed Services". Select "Add setting" from the dropdown menu.
Step 13
Fill in the "Service Identifier" field.
Service Identifier: com.zebra.eventinjectionservice
Click "Next" to continue with the configuration.
Step 14
Define scope tags if required by your organization, and click "Next" to continue.
Step 15
Configure the Assignments of your new Device Configuration Policy to suit your needs. Click "Next" to continue.
Note: The Device Configuration Policy will be only applied to the devices with the Zebra OEMConfig Powered by MX app.
Step 16
Review your newly created policy and click "Create".
Step 17
Open the "Zebra OEMConfig Powered by MX" and review "Last Keyed Appstates". If the policy was applied successfully, the output on your device should look like the output shown on the screenshot above.
This means the configuration was successful and that the remote control of your Zebra device should now be working.
Note: Some device configuration policies will take a while to apply and sync with the device. Keep an eye out on the output mentioned in Step 17, and the "Device Status" menu in Microsoft Intune. For faster application, force "Sync" can also be used across the devices affected by the policy.
